Kecuali buku The Sneaker Book: Anatomy of an Industry and an Icon yang ditulis Tom Vanderbilt (1998) yang mengulas sneaker dalam konteks industri sepatu, buku-buku sneaker yang muncul antara 1990–2000 umumnya adalah dokumenter dan memoar. 1991 terbit buku memoar pasang surut dan kebangkitan Nike, Swoosh: Unauthorized Story of Nike and the Men Who Played There. Ditulis oleh J. B. Strasser—bekas Direktur Periklanan Nike—dan Laurie Becklund.
2003, terbit Where’d You Get Those? New York City’s Sneaker Culture: 1960-1987, ditulis oleh Bobbito Garcia. Ini adalah buku pertama yang mendokumentasikan cikal-bakal budaya sneaker di New York.

Baru 2016 kajian akademik sneaker terbit: Sneakers: Fashion, Gender, and Subculture yang ditulis seorang sosiolog, Yuniya Kawamura.
Di tahun yang sama terbit Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike, ditulisolehPhil Knight, pendiri Nike; dan 1000 Sneakers: A Guide to the World’s Greatest Kicks, from Sport to Street yang disusun oleh Mathieu Le Maux. 2017 terbit Shoes: The Meaning of Style (Elizabeth Semmelhack)di mana salah satu babnya mengulas sneaker. Terbit pula Sneakers (2017) yang ditulis oleh Rodrigo Corral, Alex French, dan Howie Kahn yang mengulas opini para sneakerhead. 2018 terbit Kicks: The Great American Story of Sneakers, ditulis Nicholas Smith. Memasuki 2020, terbit Foot Work: What Your Shoes are Doing to the World karyaTansy E. Hoskins, penulis Stitched Up: The Anti-Capitalist Book of Fashion (2014). Berbeda dengan buku-buku yang terbit antara 2000 awal hingga 2019—meskipun buku Hoskin membahas industri sepatu secara umum—uraiannya melengkapi penjelasan atas pertanyaan-pertanyaan kritis Tom Vanderbilt dalam The Sneaker Book: Anatomy of an Industry and an Icon. Dibandingkan dengan produksi dan konsumsi sneaker, rangkaian buku di atas hanyalah setitik pasir di lautan. Mudah-mudahan ke depan akan lebih banyak lagi buku-buku kajian sneaker yang dapat menjawab banyak pertanyaan yang belum terjawab dalam buku-buku sebelumnya.
